My Friends & Comrades,

2020 has been a year like no other. A year that we hope to never experience again.
The year started on such a positive note, then Covid-19 happened and threw everything
 & everyone into turmoil.

Sadly, we had to close our doors after St. Patrick’s Day, and stayed shuttered until mid June.

We didn’t waste our time though.
We used this shut-down to take care of some much-needed Maintenance, Repairs and Upgrades.
We had our new Dance Floor installed as well as a new sound system.
A new fence was put up in the back. New paint was done where needed… and much more.

Remembrance Day was a whole new experience for us all.
Since we couldn’t gather in person,
the Ceremonies were filmed in advance & broadcast online, as well as showing video at the Branch.

I was recently honoured to present Certificates of Appreciation, along with a small gift,
to Courtney Westwood from the City of White Rock, and to Jamie Carson from
Flinnwest Solutions for their wonderful work in creating, filming, editing and
hosting this year’s Virtual Remembrance Day Ceremony.

I am in awe at the way many of our members and volunteers selflessly stepped up and helped
out during the pandemic by monitoring the door, clearing & sanitizing the tables and chairs,
protecting themselves and their fellow members by wearing their masks,
keeping their distance from others, and generally following the recommendations & guidelines
that are intended to keep us all safe.

There are far too many names to mention and thank, but I want to recognize
a few of our volunteers, staff & executive.

Chris & Carol Voisey along with their incredible group of volunteers raised more money
during the 2020 Poppy Campaign than last year’s total… even under the cloud of Covid-19!

Glenn Eden has been a great asset to our Branch by managing our Website and Facebook page,
as well as photographing and documenting the many events and activities in the Legion.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Gail Green, our wonderful Office Manager.
She is a spitfire with seemingly endless energy. (We need to know her secret!)
She always has 101 things on the go, but still takes the time to help old & new members
with any questions or issues they may have.

In closing, I wish all the best for this Holiday Season, a Merry Christmas to one and all,
and a Healthy, Safe & Happy 2021.

Yours Truly,

Dave Williams
President, Royal Canadian Legion
Branch 8, White Rock.
