General Meeting

Thursday, April 25th, 2019

The next General Meeting will take place at the Branch on Thursday, Arpil 25th at 7:30PM. Support your Executive by attending and voting on issues affecting your Branch. It's important that you attend and participate as your opinions and votes matter.  Otherwise don't complain if things aren't the way you'd like to see them. The Executive meets on the fourth Thursday of each month. There are no meetings for the months of July and August. The 2019 Election General meeting will take place on Sunday, December 8th, 2019. "Particip8 at 8".

White Rock Mayor Wayne Baldwin attends Branch #8 to present annual Honours & Awards.

The Royal Canadian Legion, White Rock Branch #8 held its annual Honours and Awards banquet on Sunday, May 6th.  Notable awards include local resident Mr. Aldon G. Pagio, who was honoured for his past military service and 60 years as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.  Presenting Mr. Pagio with his award were White Rock Mayor Wayne Baldwin, himself a veteran having served as a Major in the Canadian Army, along with White Rock/Surrey MLA Ms. Tracy Redies.  Shown in the photo from left to right are Don Vilac, Branch #8 Sgt. at Arms, Mayor Baldwin, Hendrik Groen, Branch #8 President, Mr. Pagio and MLA Tracy Redies.  Also recognized for past service and 55 years as a Legion member is, Mr. Robert Fritzke, shown in the centre of the photo.  Finally, receiving recognition for his service and 50 years membership, is Mr. Bruce Dundas. Other longevity awards were presented to members ranging from 10 years to 45 years.  The White Rock Legion, Branch #8 and its membership of over 700 local citizens donates back to the community over $150,000 annually to numerous charities and causes.

This annual tradition at the branch was a hit with all the children. Held between noon and 3:00PM. Children 10 and under were entertained by the clown after lunch.  Santa arrived around 2:00PM and gave each child a gift.

Election General Meeting

The Election General Meeting, where your 2017 Branch Executive was elected, took place at the Branch on Sunday, December 11th at 2:00PM. With a turnout of only 57 members eligible to vote, we elected 11 individuals.  Members joining the Executive cast for their first time this year are George Wolfe and Angie Tilley.  Congratulations and welcome, George and Angie.  Stepping down from the 2016 governance team are Dave Williams and Lydia Hall.  Thank you to Dave and Lydia for your service to our branch.  Thank you to all members who turned out to vote and for "Particip8ing at 8".

President's BBQ Resounding Success

Labour Day Monday, September 5th

With a strong turnout in excess of 100 people, this event was declared a resounding success.  The hall was full and all members and their guests enjoyed a fine meal accompanied by live and lively entertainment.

Our President tried his best to flip steaks but was quite relieved when our chef Dionne took over the reins.John Fletcher did take the time to talk to most if not all in attendance and received glowing reports about the high quality of the food provided by Mackarino's Kitchen and the lively entertainment provided by the group, The News.

Member Appreciation Day was a Great Success!

On Sunday, August 21st Branch #8 celebrated its 90th anniversary by2016-08-21 16.45.23 hosting its Member Appreciation Day in2016-08-21 16.46.26 conjunction.   A BBQ with burgers, hot dogs & a drink or two compliments of Branch 8 was provided for its members and guests. Live entertainment was provided by NASTY HABITS.  The event was attended by 110 members and an additional 40 guests.  About that same number of hamburgers and hot dogs were also served, all at no cost to atttendees.  Thanks to Paul Charlton for cooking his "buns" off, the LA for providing the side dishes and Sue Comeau and May Fletcher who did the shopping for the ingredients.  Five new members signed up and other guest indicated their intention to join.  20 door prizes consisting of gift certificates and merchandise were won by draw.  Each member also received three complimentary drink tickets.  Wall decorations in circa 1920 theme were  created and displayed by Sonia Baron. The Pool tournament, $10 buy-in, 100% pay-out, winners were 1st place, Jan Dekker, 2nd place Gary McQuait and 1st place ladies, Adele Edmunson. "Particip8 at 8."

Dart champs finish 3rd & 5th at Dominion finals!!

Our Branch 008 dart players placed 3rd in the Doubles event and fifth in the Team event at the Dominion finals in Saint John, NB.  The event took place between May 6th and 9th.  After successfully winning the Team andDart Champs Doubles events at the 2016 Provincial Darts Playdowns – held on the weekend of April 1st-3rd, at Comox Branch # 160, they advanced to represent the BC / Yukon Command, Peace Arch Zone and Branch # 008 White Rock at the Dominion Finals being hosted by Branch #069 Saint John, NB.
